Resolution Revolution

January 1st the gyms are packed with “resolutioners”, but by April they’re back to the regulars. According to a study by the University of Scranton, only 8% of people are successful in achieving their New Year’s Resolutions. It’s because most people don’t make a concrete plan to achieve their goals. If you fail to plan, you should plan to fail. Use the strategies below to help set goals for the new year, not just resolutions!

1.       Make it meaningful. Be honest with yourself about what you really want. Understand the “why” behind the goal.

2.       Make it known. Write down your goals and share them with supportive family and friends.

3.       Make rewards. Review your goals regularly, track y our progress and create rewards for milestones along the way.

4.       Make them SMART.

S-Specific- I will lose 10 pounds

M-Measurable- I will weigh in every Friday.

A-Attainable- I will lose roughly 1 pound per week

R-Realistic- I will work out 4 days per week and cook my meals (instead of going out) Sunday through Friday.

T-Timely- I will do this in 3 months

 

Remember, you are human. If you mess up or have a setback don’t let it takeover your life- move forward and plan better next time! Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing all your tires because you have one flat!
