Les Mills RPM

RPM stands for revolutions per minute; it's a cycling term that measures how fast you can pedal. RPM at Fitness Loft Columbus is a fun personalized indoor cycling class that puts YOU in control of the intensity. The class revolves around great music and a stationary exercise bike with various adjustable settings. Each class has an instructor that uses techniques to get your heart rate up and safely back down again. This class is excellent for beginners because it is a low impact workout, meaning that your risk of injury is low. Health Benefits of RPM Spinning

The RPM class can bring about a lot of health benefits if done correctly. The most obvious advantage is that you will have the chance to burn calories and fat. In just a single session, you can burn about 700 calories! In a group environment, you will meet other motivated cyclists that will help push you to reach your goal. Cycling is a great way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Music During Cycling

Music plays a huge role in the RPM class experience. Studies have shown that listening to music while working out improves your performance. RPM takes this to heart and designs classes with how people will react to the music. Your instructor takes you on a journey with the music as you pedal faster following the beat of the music. This is not your typical workout class. The playlists are continually being updated to make the class fresh and up to date. There’s a mixture of different genres such as rap and electronic dance music by various popular artists. Some songs are slow and others are fast. On the slow songs you rest, on the fast songs, you give it all that you have. Your instructor will guide you through the highs and the lows and may even throw in a few surprise twists to make sure you’re working hard.

What to Wear to an RPM Class

If you follow the class exercise correctly, you will sweat a lot. If you plan on running errands after class you may want to bring a change of clothes or plan your outfit. Ideally, you’ll want to wear clothes made out of light material. That way, you’re not entirely soaked after your workout. Most people wear a tank top to this exercise, but it's ultimately up to you. You’ll also want clothes that are slim and tight fitting to your body. You’re going to be moving quite a lot throughout the class, and it is essential that you have clothing that isn’t getting caught in the pedals. For shoes, you might want to reach out to your instructor to ask for their recommendation. One type of exercise bike may require a specific kind of shoe over another and its best to figure this out before you make a purchase.

Get Started

If you’ve never ridden on an indoor exercise bike before, do not worry. The class cycling instructor will show you the proper way to get your exercise bike adjusted to your body. Also, the instructor will learn about your unique fitness goals and make educated recommendations to help get you to your goal. Just because others in the class may be able to push through a whole class doesn’t mean that you have to. For someone starting a new class, your instructor may recommend that you only do a few rounds and then slowly over time work your way up to a full class.
